Eight projects during the year: 4 in the Fall, 3 in the Winter, and 1 in the Spring.
Free! (if you finish the program). You'll pay a deposit of $120 at the beginning of the program to receive your parts kit. Each quarter you'll have an opportunity to earn $40 back by completing all of your projects! By the end of the year, you'll have earned your entire $120 deposit back, and you get to keep all the parts in your kit!
This is made possible by our generous patrons, who are invested in seeing UCI engineers be at the forefront of innovation.
We are using Canvas as our OPS hub, for technical resources, due dates, and project submissions! It will be just like all your other classes on Canvas.
Every project will be accompanied by a lecture on relevant concepts (and important hints for the project) and a workshop to assist you. Resources will be provided through Canvas, and our IEEE room (ICS 255) is always open and filled with students that can help.
We will have social events throughout the year with fun events and food. Moreover, our workshops and lectures will also be times to stay and hang out. If you’re unaware, IEEE@UCI has a club room in ICS225 with computers, games, desks and electronics equipment.
By successfully completing OPS, your name and Resume will be added to our IEEE UCI Resume Book. Companies often look to us for qualified applicants, and with this resume book they will know that you have completed the OPS program.
We will make sure that you have all the resources at your disposal to finish all the projects. Anyone can do this, it’s just a matter of actually doing it. We don’t expect OPS to interfere with your GPA or your social life. In fact, OPS will likely help you in your classes and will introduce you to new friends in your field of study.
Looking at the projects for Fall, you might think that OPS is too easy for you if you’ve had experience with electronics. However, things quickly become advanced and by Spring you’ll be building one of the most advanced embedded projects for an undergrad: the Micromouse. Moreover, we need students that are more experienced to help those that are less so. We even have extra fun prizes and rewards like a mark of distinction under your name in our IEEE UCI Resume Book.
